Frequently asked questions about the EUDR
- What is the EUDR?
- The EUDR (EU Deforestation Regulation, Regulation 2023/1115) prohibits placing on the European market, making available and exporting products linked to deforestation or forest degradation. It covers 7 commodities (soy, beef, palm oil, wood, cocoa, coffee, rubber) and their derived products.
- When does the EUDR come into force?
- The EUDR applies from 30 December 2026 for large companies and from 30 June 2027 for micro and small enterprises. The cut-off date for zero deforestation is 31 December 2020.
- How do I know if my product is covered?
- Check whether the CN code (Combined Nomenclature) of your product appears in Annex I of Regulation 1115/2023. Use this tool by entering your CN code or product name. Note: headings marked "ex" only cover some products under that heading.
- What must I do if my product is covered?
- You must exercise due diligence before placing on the market or exporting: collect information (geolocation of plots, suppliers), assess deforestation risks, and mitigate identified risks. See our EUDR guide for detailed steps.
- Are certifications (FSC, RSPO) sufficient for the EUDR?
- No. Voluntary certifications (FSC, PEFC, RSPO, Rainforest Alliance) may be used as elements of the due diligence risk assessment, but they are not sufficient on their own to prove EUDR compliance. The operator remains responsible for the entire due diligence process.
