PRODCOM nomenclature
European statistical nomenclature for industrial production, aligned with the HS and CN to ensure comparability.
The PRODCOM nomenclature (PRODuction COMmunautaire) is the statistical classification system used to collect industrial production data in the European Union. It is managed by Eurostat and covers all mining and manufacturing activities (sections B and C of NACE Rev. 2).
PRODCOM is closely linked to the Combined Nomenclature: its 8-digit codes are generally built on CN codes, with adaptations to reflect production rather than trade reality. This correspondence enables direct comparison between domestic production data and import/export data.
For tariff classification professionals, PRODCOM is a useful tool for understanding production flows and identifying competing European products when examining economic conditions for customs procedures (inward processing) or tariff suspensions. European production of a product directly influences commercial policy decisions.
PRODCOM data is collected annually from industrial enterprises and published by Eurostat. It constitutes a statistical source complementary to trade data for sectoral market analysis and the development of European industrial and commercial policies.
