Customs document codes
Reference of TARIC document codes required for customs declarations - certificates, licences and transport documents.
Document codes are used in customs declarations to identify the certificates, licences and other documents required for the import or export of goods. These codes are defined in the TARIC (Integrated Tariff of the European Communities) database.
Code structure
Document codes follow a 4-character format:

How to find required codes
The document codes required for a given commodity depend on:
- The tariff heading (10-digit HS/TARIC code)
- The country of origin of the goods
- The country of provenance (last country before the EU)
- The customs procedure requested (release for free circulation, transit, etc.)
The European Commission's TARIC database lists the applicable measures and required documents for each code/origin combination.
