Bpifrance Assurance Export
The French public body managing state-backed export guarantees, successor to COFACE in this role since 2017.
Bpifrance Assurance Export is the Bpifrance entity that manages state-backed export guarantees on behalf of the French State since 1 January 2017, taking over from COFACE.
The main guarantees offered are:
- Prospection insurance: coverage of commercial prospection costs abroad (up to 65 % of expenses over 4 years)
- Export credit insurance: coverage of non-payment risk (commercial and political) on export contracts
- Exchange rate guarantee: protection against currency fluctuations on contracts denominated in foreign currencies
- Bond and pre-financing guarantees: coverage of banks issuing bonds or granting pre-financing credits
- Interest rate stabilisation: for medium and long-term export credits
Bpifrance Assurance Export is a key player in France's export support policy. Its intervention complements the private credit insurance market, targeting risks that the private sector cannot or will not cover (country risks, long durations, large amounts).
The body operates through a network of offices in France and works in coordination with foreign trade advisers and Business France.
