A FOUR CHANNEL SHOCK AND IMPACT STIMULATION SYSTEM, CONSIST OF FOUR HIGH VELOCITY HYDRAULICALLY DRIVEN ACTUATORS AND ASSOCIATED HARDWARE. THE ACTUATORS ARE ESSENTIALLY PISTONS DRIVEN BY HIGH PRESSURE OIL, VIA ACCUMULATORS MOUNTED ON THE BODY OF THE PISTONS. THE COMPLETE SYSTEM CONSISTS OF FOUR ACTUATORS, TWO SMALL AND TWO LARGE. ASSOCIATED WITH THE ACTUATORS ARE; A DATA ACQUISITION SYSTEM FOR MEASURING ACCLERATION AND POSITION OF THE ACTUATORS TO ENABLE THEM TO BE CONTROLLED, USING A DEDICATED CONTROL SYSTEM, A HYDRAULIC POWER SUPPLY, FOR CHARGING THE ACCUMULATORS WHICH DRIVE THE ACTUATOR WITH OIL AND GUIDE RAILS FOR SUPPORTING MASSES AND 'PROGRAMMERS' WHICH ARE FIXED TO THE ENDS OF THE ACTUATOR PISTONS. THE PROGRAMMERS ARE SIMPLY ELASTOMERIC FACINGS WHICH FIT ON THE FACE OF EACH MASS ATTACHED TO EACH ACTUATOR. THE ACTUATORS ARE USED TO STIMULATE THE EFFECTS OF SHOCK OR IMPACT ON STRUCTURAL TEST SPECIMENS (SUCH AS WALLS, COLUMNS, CLADDING PANELS, BEAMS). THE ACTUATORS ARE USED SINGLY OR IN COMBINATION TO LOAD TEST SPECIMENS WITHIN A CONTROLLED LABORATORY ENVIRONMENT. THE MASSES ON THE ENDS OF THE ACTUATORS ARE ALLOWED TO COLLIDE WITH THE TEST SPECIMEN TO PROVIDE A HIGH ENERGY IMPULSIVE LOADING SO THAT STRUCTURAL RESPONSE CAN BE MEASURED AND OBSERVED. THE OUTPUT OF THE TESTS IS TO ASSIST WITH ACADEMIC RESEARCH AT THE UNIVERSITY OF BATH. THE VALUE OF THE COMPLETE SYSTEM IS $2,100,000.
