Customs value adjustments
Value adjustments are the elements that must be added or can be deducted from the price actually paid to obtain the customs value in accordance with the regulations.
Elements to add (article 71 CDU)
- Commissions and brokerage fees (excluding purchase commissions)
- Cost of containers and packaging
- Contributions provided by the buyer (materials, tools, technical plans)
- Merchandise-related royalties and licensing fees
- Transport and insurance costs to the place of introduction into the EU
- Loading and handling costs
Elements that can be deducted (article 72 CDU)
- Transportation costs after arrival in the EU
- Construction, assembly or installation costs after importation
- Customs duties and taxes payable in the EU
- Interests linked to a financing agreement
Importance
Incorrect adjustments are a common source of customs adjustments. Companies must document each adjustment with supporting documentation.
