INTUMESCENT FIRE COLLAR ASSEMBLEY. PRODUCT COMPRISES OF A PASSIVE FIRE PROTECTION DEVICE MADE FROM A PLASTIC/METAL OUTER CASING AND A GRAPHITE CORE. THE PRODUCT IS DESIGNED TO BE CAST INTO CONCRETE SLABS IN NEW HIGH RISE BUILDINGS. THE PURPOSE OF THE FIRE COLLAR IS TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF FIRE BETWEEN FLOORS, WHERE PLASTIC PIPES PENETRATE THE FLOOR THROUGH THE FIRE COLLAR. THE COLLARS DO THIS BY CHOKING OFF THE PENETRATION IN THE CONCRETE TO STOP THE FIRE SPREADING UP THE PLASTIC PIPES AS THEY BURN. WITHIN THE COLLAR A METAL PIN OR BOLTS PROTRUDES THROUGH THE CASING TO HOLD SPRINGS IN PLACE INSIDE THE COLLAR. THE PINS WILL BE SURROUNDED BY CONCRETE, ONCE THE COLLAR IS CAST INTO THE CONCRETE. THE SPRING IS IN TENSION AND HELD BY A FUSELINK. IN THE CASE OF A FIRE, THE FUSELINK MELTS, WHICH THEN PUTS PRESSURE ON THE GRAPHITE INTUMESNENT MATERIAL ON THE INSIDE OF THE COLLAR, AND ON THE PIPE PENETRATING THE COLLAR. THE GRAPHITE CORE IS THE ACTIVE COMPONENT WITHIN THE FIRE COLLAR. AS THE SPRINGS PUSH THE INTUMESCENT TOWARDS THE CENTRE OF THE COLLAR IN A FIRE SITUATION, THE INTUMESCENT EXPANDS AND FILLS THE VOID LEFT BY THE PIPE. AS THE INTUMESCENT EXPANDS, IT BECOMES POWDERY, THEREFORE MESH HAS BEEN INTRODUCED TO ACT AS RE-INFORCEMENT FOR THE ACTIVATED INTUMESCENT.
