THIS 'ELEMENT' IS PART OF A THERMOCOUPLE THAT MEASURES THE TEMPERATURE AT A CERTAIN POINT IN A GAS TURBINE ENGINE. COMPOSITION OF PART: MADE FROM MI CABLE: MINERAL INSULATED CABLE CONSISTS OF TWO CONDUCTOR WIRES (NICKEL-CHROMIUM AND NICKEL-ALUMINIUM) HELD IN PLACE WITHIN A METAL SHEATH AND ISOLATED FROM EACH OTHER BY MAGNESIUM OXIDE (MGO). THE THERMOCOUPLE ELEMENT IS ASSEMBLED TO OTHER COMPONENTS TO TURN IT INTO A THERMOCOUPLE THAT CAN BE SAFELY MOUNTED ONTO A GAS TURBINE ENGINE. FUNCTION OF PART: HEATING OF THE TWO DIFFERENT ELECTRICAL CONDUCTORS IN THE ELEMENT OF THE THERMOCOUPLE PRODUCES A VOLTAGE THAT IS PROPORTIONAL TO THE TEMPERATURE. THE TEMPERATURE IS DETERMINED BY THE CONTROL SYSTEM TO WHICH IT IS CONNECTED. END USE OF PART: THIS PARTICULAR ELEMENT IS INCORPORATED INTO IS A T25 THERMOCOUPLE FOR THE ROLLS-ROYCE XWB CIVIL GAS TURBINE AERO ENGINE.
