CMR consignment note
International road transport document governed by the CMR Convention, attesting that the goods have been taken over by the carrier.
CMR consignment note
The CMR consignment note is the transport document used for the international road transport of goods, governed by the Convention relating to the contract for the international carriage of goods by road (CMR, Geneva 1956).
Role
The CMR certifies that the goods have been taken over by the carrier and serves as proof of the transport contract, receipt of the goods and as a basis in the event of a dispute.
Content
The CMR consignment note indicates the sender, the carrier and the recipient, the place and date of pick-up, the place of delivery, the description of the goods (nature, weight, number of packages), customs instructions and any reservations.
Carrier liability
Under the CMR Convention, the carrier is presumed responsible for losses and damage occurring between collection and delivery. The compensation limit is 8.33 SDR/kg of gross weight.
e-CMR
The 2008 additional protocol authorizes the electronic CMR consignment note (e-CMR). France has ratified it and its use is developing, allowing real-time monitoring and dematerialization of exchanges.
Reserves
The recipient must express reasoned reservations on the CMR upon delivery in the event of apparent damage. For non-apparent damage, the deadline is 7 working days after delivery.
