Customs Single Window
A platform enabling traders to submit all information required for customs clearance through a single entry point.
The Customs Single Window is a concept and IT platform enabling international trade operators to submit all information and documents required for import, export and transit of goods through a single entry point.
The EU Single Window Environment for Customs (EU SWE-C, Regulation 2022/2399) is the harmonised European framework connecting customs systems with other regulatory authorities (health, veterinary, phytosanitary, etc.).
Single Window objectives:
- Simplification: one data submission instead of multiple declarations to different authorities
- Acceleration: parallel processing of formalities by different authorities
- Consistency: automatic verification of concordance between certificates and customs declarations
- Cost reduction: fewer administrative formalities and processing time
The EU SWE-C deployment is progressive (2025-2031) and integrates numerous systems: TRACES (health certificates), FLEGT (legal timber), CITES (protected species), REX (origin), etc.
For importers, the Single Window means they will no longer need to separately submit certificates and authorisations to different administrations: everything will be automatically verified at the time of customs clearance.
