The EUDR (EU Deforestation Regulation, Regulation 2023/1115) requires that certain products placed on the EU market be deforestation-free: they must not originate from land deforested or degraded after 31 December 2020.
Products covered:

- Soy
- Wood
- Cocoa
- Coffee
- Rubber
- Cattle
- And their derived products (leather, chocolate, furniture, paper, charcoal, etc.)
Obligations for operators and importers:
- Due diligence: system comprising information collection, risk assessment and mitigation
- Geolocation: GPS coordinates of production plots must be provided
- Traceability: complete chain of custody from producer to importer
- Due diligence statement: submitted before placing on the market via a dedicated information system
The benchmarking system classifies countries into three risk categories (low, standard, high), modulating the level of controls. Application is planned for late 2025 for large companies and mid-2026 for SMEs.
