TARIC additional code
4-character code supplementing the 8-digit CN code to identify specific measures (anti-dumping, quotas, surveillance).
The TARIC additional code is a 4-character identifier that supplements the 8-digit Combined Nomenclature (CN) code and the two TARIC digits, to target specific regulatory measures applicable to certain goods. These codes enable a granularity of management that tariff classification alone cannot provide.
TARIC additional codes primarily serve to identify: anti-dumping and anti-subsidy measures (additional duties on specific products originating from targeted countries), tariff quotas (identification of the applicable quota), statistical surveillance measures, and tariff suspensions with specific end-uses.
Each additional code is associated with a measure type and precise application conditions. For example, an anti-dumping duty may apply to a product under a given CN code, but only when produced by certain companies in a specific third country. The additional code enables this differentiation.
Operators must cite the appropriate additional codes in their customs declarations. Omission or error in additional codes can lead to incorrect duty application or declaration blocking by the customs IT system. The online TARIC database is the reference tool for identifying applicable additional codes.
